The Atlantic Center for the Arts Soundscape Field Station, a partnership between Atlantic Center for the Arts and Canaveral National Seashore, announces Lee Tesche & Staci Janik as its 2026 artists-in-residence. This residency program invites musicians, composers, and ecologists to find innovative approaches that help preserve a healthy and balanced soundscape for current and future generations. Atlantic Center for the Arts has over 45 years of experience in producing artist-in-residency programs that attract distinguished artists from all over the world.
From February 8, Lee and Staci will work at the Atlantic Center for the Arts campus and the Doris Leeper House at Canaveral National Seashore.
Project Inspiration
A move in 2020 to New Smyrna Beach on the Atlantic coast of Florida was the catalyst for this idea. Evenings were often spent walking through marshland and trails thick with palm fronds and Spanish moss.
We learned about Doris Leeper, an artist who was very involved in environmental protection and helped to establish Canaveral National Seashore, along with several other wildlife preserves in the area. She founded the Atlantic Center for the Arts, which has a storied residency program.
We were also curious and eager to explore the natural areas surrounding where most modern space exploration began.
Our soundwalks started here and led to the creation of loop-based ambient music, while also collecting basic data and visuals, charting each unique ecological environment with a simple story and pairing it with an audio soundtrack.
