Project Inspiration
A move in 2020 to New Smyrna Beach on the Atlantic coast of Florida was the catalyst for this idea. Evenings were often spent walking through marshland and trails thick with palm fronds and Spanish moss.
We learned about Doris Leeper—an artist who was very involved in environmental protection and helped to establish Canaveral National Seashore along with several other wildlife preserves in the area. She founded the Atlantic Center for the Arts which has a storied residency program.
We were also curious and eager to explore the natural areas surrounding where most modern space exploration began.
Our soundwalks started here and led to the creation of loop based ambient music, while also collecting basic data and visuals, charting each unique ecological environment with a simple story and pairing it with an audio soundtrack.
